A Friendly Corner of Waterloo: Exploring the Vision Behind 53 Brook Street

Ever wondered what goes into designing a place that feels like home before it’s even built?

At Faisandier Group, we’re thrilled to offer you a first look into our newest residential project at 53 Brook Street, Waterloo.

In a recent walkthrough, I teamed up with Jesse Matthews from Voxell Architects to dive into the location, design philosophy, and community thinking behind this exciting new development.

🌱 Leafy Location with Everyday Perks

Situated on the valley floor of Waterloo, this development is perfectly placed for convenience and charm. Just a short walk to Waterloo Station, and near shops, schools, and the beloved Trafalgar Park, 53 Brook Street offers both serenity and connectivity.

Jesse points out the advantages of its corner-site positioning, which opens up opportunities for a striking architectural presence while keeping things grounded in the friendly, leafy vibe of the Hutt.

🏘️ Homes with Character and Community in Mind

The corner configuration has inspired some creative design moves. Each home will feature:

  • A distinctive roofline

  • Street-facing entrances

  • A cohesive material palette: think warm timber, sleek metal cladding, and crisp plaster

"We wanted something new and fresh, but that still feels completely at home in the neighbourhood," Jesse explains. The goal? Homes that are recognisable yet unified — like a community that speaks the same language, but with each house adding its own accent.

🍃 Green Spaces and Good Vibes

One of the standout features is the shared green courtyard. Tucked into the centre of the site, it creates a sunny, sheltered hub where neighbours can cross paths or simply relax. Each home has a private backyard as well, ensuring space for solitude or family BBQs.

The pedestrian entry, complete with a snaking path and landscape wall, adds a whimsical village feel — a nod to thoughtful urban planning that values people over cars. Speaking of cars, the avaliable car parking is tucked away, keeping the community feel front and centre.

🪟 A Warm Welcome from the Windows

Finally, let’s talk windows. I love the square, friendly-looking window design, which gives the homes a sense of personality, almost as if they’re smiling out at the street. It’s small touches like these that make this development feel inviting and human-focused.

While construction is underway, we invite you to explore the digital flythrough and get a sense of what life at 53 Brook Street might feel like. It’s more than a new build — it’s a vision of community living, where design and livability go hand in hand.
